Chuy, some Laredoan's don't hate you, they just think they do because they don't love themselves.            Erasmo

Indeed, indeed, I cannot tell

Indeed, indeed, I cannot tell,
Though I ponder on it well,
Which were easier to state,
All my love or all my hate.
Surely, surely, thou wilt trust me
When I say thou dost disgust me.
O, I hate thee with a hate
That would fain annihilate;
Yet sometimes against my will,
My dear friend, I love thee still.
It were treason to our love,
And a sin to God above,
One iota to abate
Of a pure impartial hate.

Henry David Thoreau

I joined Ropes & Gray in January, 2010 as an associate in the Litigation Department. I chose Ropes & Gray due to the strength of its training curriculum, the flexibility of the summer program and the presence of extremely intelligent and energetic colleagues who are committed not only to the firm, but to each attorney’s individual development.

I came to Ropes with every expectation of being challenged by cutting-edge and intriguing legal issues; what I didn’ t anticipate was the opportunity to become significantly involved in substantive matters this early in my career. Despite being only a junior associate, I have had the opportunity to draft entire motions, supervise a document review, meet with clients and witnesses, and have even entered the courtroom to assist with oral argument! More importantly, the more senior associates and partners Iâ&euro ;™ve worked with have never hesitated to take the time to sit down with me and explain the strategy and real-world considerations underlying the work I’m doing for them, even when we’re physically located in different offices across the nation. These glimpses of the “big picture†have provided me with a practical education that I’ve immediately applied to my own pro bono cases.  Furthermore, I have had the opportunity to meet and learn the stories of truly inspiring partners and associates on a different level as a member of the Women’s Forum and Attorneys of Color groups. These groups illustrate Ropesâ €™ firm commitment to fostering an environment where every attorney is given the support he or she needs to succeed.

I graduated from Dartmouth College in 2005 with a B.A. in philosophy and received my J.D. from Washington University School of Law in 2009. In my free time I enjoy getting outside with my golden retriever Fenway, reading, and watching the wicked awesome Boston Red Sox pulverize the Yankees.I just joined the firm in January, 2010 as a first year associate in the litigation department. I chose to summer at Ropes & Gray in 2008 because I was intrigued by the flexibility of the summer program and truly enjoyed meeting attorneys at the firm through the interview process. My summer showed me that lawyers absolutely can maintain a work/life balance when they have the support of a firm like Ropes.

I am confident that Ropes & Gray is the right place for me to embark on my legal career. While I have only been an associate for a mere matter of months, I have drafted entire motions, met with a client and even entered a courtroom twice to assist with oral argument! Ropes has also already provided me with several opportunities to meet and engage with truly inspiring members of the partnership here through the Women's Forum and Attorneys of Color groups. And last, but certainly not least, I feel privileged to be able to
